First meeting: Jikoshoukai (ice-breaking)
This is the first meeting with our Japanese teacher. I’m feeling so excited to learn this language since I really love Japanese culture, technology and so on about Japanese. At the first time, I’m the only one from all my friends from same programme registered this course. It made me a little bit nervous. Due to my interest on learning Japanese, I try to be strong. When I meet the teacher, I’m so relief because she is so nice person but little bit strict on some circumstance such on attendance and submission of the assessment tasks. Her name is Dr Zoraida binti Mustafa and told us to call her Zoraida-sensee. Sensee (せんせい, read as sensei) means a teacher, doctor, master and so on. There is various meaning can be used for the word sensei, not just for teacher only.
Everybody in the class have been asked by sensee why we’re choosing
this course and why we want to learn this subject. The reason for me is I’m
really attached with Japanese culture, art, technology and so on. I also want
to pursue my study in Japan if there is opportunity for me to go there.
On
this course, we’ll be going through in 14 weeks which consist 28 hours of
studies. We are using Marugoto nihon no kotoba to bunka. Nyuumon A1 Katsudoo. [まるごと日本のことばと文化入門A1かつどう. 三修社 (JP)]. Sanshuusha(JP) as
our main reference book besides two other web which is e-minato and marugoto
online course.
There
are 4 categories of assessment since we don’t have final exam which are online
task, video task, group work presentation and E-portfolio.
Another
thing that is new for me is sensee ask class rep to say kiritsu (きりつ/ stand) then everyone
stand like usually we did in school, greating sensee, perform dua’ and
chakuseki (ちゃくせき/
sit). We need to do this in every class.
So
that is as much I got in today class. I hope there is more in the next class.
