Seventh meeting: Lesson 5, Tabemono (Food)

This day lesson is to ask friends about food and drinks.

Examples of food:

にく/ niku = meat                               たまご /tamago = egg
さかな /sakana = fish                         パン /pan = bread
やさい /yasai  = vegetables                みそしる /misoshiru = soup
くだもの /kudamono = fruits            ごはん /gohan = rice

Note: yasai and kudamano is all kind of vegetables and fruits

Example of drinks:

コーヒー /koohi = coffee                              ジュース /juusu = juice
こうちゃ /koocha = dark tea                         ぎゅうにゅう /gyuunyuu = milk
おちゃ /ocha = green tea                                みず  /mizu = water

What do you like to eat?

A         : なにが すきですか?   “nani ga suki desuka?” (what do you like to eat?)

B         : ごはんとにく すきです。   “gohan to niku suki desu.” (I like to eat rice and meat)

A         : さかな は?   “sakana wa?” (how about fish?)

B         : さかな は、すきじゃないです。   “sakana wa suki janaidesu” (I don’t like fish)

Offer someone to drink.

A         : ジュースー、のみますか?   “juusu, nomimasuka?” (would you like to drink a juice?)

                                    If yes

B         : はい、おねがいします。   “hai, onegaisimashu.” (yes, please.)

                                    If no

B         : いいえ、みずです。   “iie, mizu desu” (no, drinking water please)

A         : はい、どうぞ。   “hai, doozo” (this is your drink sir.)

B         : すみません。   “sumimasen” (I’m sorry)*this is polite way to say thank you in japan.

Asking about breakfast habit.

A         : いつも あさごはんお たべますか?   “itsumo asa-gohan o tabemasuka?” (did you take your breakfast?)

B         : はい、たべます or はい、あまり たべます or いいえ、たべません。   “hai, tabemasu” or “hai, amari tabemasu” or “iie, tabemasen” (yes, I take my breakfast) or (yes, sometimes) or (no, I didn’t)

                                    If yes

A         : なにお よく たべますか?   “nani o yoku tabemasuka?” (what did usually you take for your breakfast)

B         : パンとたまごお よく たべます。   “pan to tamagio o yoku tabemasu.” (I usually take bread and egg.)

A         : なにお よく のみますか?   “nani o yoku nomimasuka?” (what did usually you drink while breakfast?)

B         : おちゃお よく のみます。”ocha o yoku nomimasu.” (I usually drink a tea.)

Vocabulary:

/to    = and
あまり/amari  = sometimes

よく/yoku       = usually
