Third meeting: Lesson 2, Moo Ichido Onegaishimasu (Classroom Expression)

In the beginning of the class, sensee call students name to check the attendance. So, sensee thought us how to react when our name called. This is the example:

せんせい        : アマリさん、いますか？

Sensee             : Amali-san imasuka? (Is Amali here?)

アマリさん    : はい、います。

Amali-san        : hai, imasu. (Yes, I am.)

せんせい　    : ファチハさん、いますか？

Sensee             : Fatiha-san, imasuka? (Is Fatiha here?)

がくせい　    : いいえ、まだです。

Gakusee (Student)      : Iie, mada desu. (No, not here yet.)

せんせい　    : ナズミヌさん、いますか？

Sensee             : Nazmin-san, imasuka? (Is Nazmin here?)

がくせい　    : いません。

Students (Student)      : Imasen. (He’s not coming)

Next, we are proceeding to the lesson. Classroom usually involve teacher-student environment, and most of the times teacher will give instructions. Nevertheless, students may sometimes request teacher to repeat the lesson, or slower the teaching pace. Below is a list of common instructions used in the classroom.

1. During the class

（では） はじめましょう。 (Dewa) hajimemashoo. (Let’s start)

（では）おわりましょう。 (Dewa) owarimashoo. (Let’s finish here.)

ちょっと やすみまましょう。 Chotto yasumimashoo. (Let’s have a break.)

2. Teacher’s instruction

きいて ください。 Kiite kudasai. (Please listen)

いって ください。 Itte kudasai. (Please say)

かいて ください。 Kaite kudasai. (Please write)

みて ください。 Mite kudasai. (Please look)

よんで ください。 Yonde kudasai. (Please read)

おぼえて ください。 Oboete kudasai. (Please memorize)

もういちど いって ください。 Moo ichido itte kudasai. (Please repeat)

ゆっくり いって ください。 Yukkuri itte kudasai. (Please say it slowly)

おおきい こえで いって ください。 Ookii koede itte kudasai. (Please say it louder)

いっしょに いって ください。 Isshoni itte kudasai. (Please say it together)

あとに ついて いって ください。 Atoni tsuite itte kudasai. (Please repeat after me)

ちょっと まって ください。 Chotto matte kudasai. (Please wait)

ほんを ひらいて ください。 Hon wo hiraite kudasai. (Open the textbook)

ほんを とじて ください。 Hon wo tojite kudasai. (Close the textbook)

わかりましたか。 Wakarimashitaka. (Do you understand?)

はい、わかりました。 Hai, wakarimashita. (Yes, I do)

いいえ、よく わかりません。 Iie, yoku wakarimasen. (No, I don’t really understand)

しつもんが ありますか。 Shitsumonga arimasuka. (Do you have any question?)

はい、あります。 Hai, arimasu. (Yes, I do)

いいえ、ありません。 Iie, arimasen. (No, I don’t)

4. Student-Teacher

もういちど おねがいします。

Moo ichido onegai shimasu. (Please repeat)

もうすこし ゆっくり いって ください。

Moo sukoshi yukkuri itte kudasai. (Please say it slowly)

せんせい、がくえいって、どういう いみですか。

Sensee, gakusei tte doo yuu imi desuka. (Sir/Madam, what does gakusee means?)

すみません。おくれます。 Sumimasen. Okuremasu. (Sorry, I will be late)

やすみます。Yasumimasu. (I will be absent)
